Rubavu district officials urged to make tourism a top priority
Rwanda Development Board (RDB) held a meeting with officials of Rubavu District and people working in the hospitality industry to discuss ways to boost up tourism and make it a top priority among the district’s targets.
RDB’s Faustn Karasira who is in charge of Tourism and planning said that tourism is one of the important pillars of the country’s economy and that Rwanda is among 50 World’s tourist sites worth visited. However, Faustin noted that Rwanda is lagging behind compared to neighbouring countries.
“Why does a tourist spend like only eight days in the country, is there nothing to be done to make him stay a little bit longer?” He questioned.
Parliamentarian Anne Marie Nsabyemungu also present at the meeting said that if tourists are treated well there are no reasons to why they would not like to stay for long. “Our reception services still need improvement…I can assure you, if a visitor is hosted kindly; they will not only come back, but also will bring others along.” She stated.
She requested the RDB to construct a road to Gishwati forest where some people have been relocated and can neither reach their relatives nor access social services easily.
Rubavu has what it takes to be a tourism attraction. Lake Kivu in the West, River Sebeya, and many other beautiful landscapes and green hills which make Rubavu an interesting destination for recreation. According to Jean Marie Vianney Ruhamanya in charge of cooperatives and investment in the district such meetings will be held each year to assess the achievements.
